Being Re-Energized In a Clean Environment

Being Re-Energized In a Clean Environment

Have you ever experienced difficulty thinking clearly or focusing while trying to complete a task? Well...have you considered that your brain fog may be due to your environment? Sounds like a stretch, I know, but there actually has been research that correlates with the idea that your environment directly relates to your mental well-being.

Cleaning makes you happier. Have you ever felt better after cleaning your house? I have. And, apparently, we’re in the majority. 70 percent of people in a survey of 2,000 people conducted by OfferUp reported feeling accomplished after doing even some light cleaning. 61 percent of the survey described light cleaning as ‘de-stressing’, while 54 percent went as far as to call it ‘relaxing’’!

A study conducted by Clorox in 2018 similarly stated that most people felt more at ease and less stressed in a clean space.

Cleaning and decluttering your environment can also lead to becoming a more focused, more productive person. Humans are very visual beings. Multiple things in our lines of vision can overwhelm and confuse the brain. It takes a long time for the human brain to make the switch from one task to another—around 23 minutes, according to a study by the University of Minnesota. In short: the more tasks or distractions are immediately in your sights, the harder (or even more impossible) it will be to focus on what needs to be done, and therefore the less productive your time will be.

The aforementioned study conducted by Clorox had similar findings; 72 percent of its participants were more productive in a clean space as opposed to a dirty or cluttered space. Furthermore, 59 percent said that their children study better in a clean space.

You can gather from the previous paragraphs that physical clutter breeds mental clutter, which impedes critical thinking. Critical thinking is essential in the creative process. When you get rid of physical clutter (unwanted items, old clothes and boxes of unused bric-à-brac), you can better handle your mental clutter (unwanted thoughts and negative emotions). In that way, decluttering even makes way for the creative process to happen!

Keeping a tidy workspace or house is imperative for a clearer, more productive mind. Getting to that tidier space, though, is not always so easy. At Andy’s Quality Cleaning, we can help you. Contact us for a quote today, and together we’ll put your mind at ease!
