Cleaning for Valentine’s Day

Cleaning for Valentine’s Day

Psst…Valentine’s Day is around the corner. I bet you want to surprise your darling with something that shows how much you care for them, but even the most grandiose thing you can think of wouldn’t be enough. Allow me to make a suggestion: cleaning!

Alright, I know it sounds like I’m throwing any idea out there, but just hear me out. Cleaning our home is something we all need to do, but we don’t always have time for it. Sometimes, we don’t even want to do it. Besides, people feel happier and less stressed out in a clean, sanitized environment. And isn’t that ultimately what you want for your sweetheart?

OK, so now that you know what to do for your love, let’s get started. Wait, you don’t know how? No worries! I’ve got some tips to help you.

Create a List

Chances are, you won’t need to scrub down the entire home from top to bottom. There’ll be a few places that require more urgency than others, though. When you’re creating your cleaning task list, start with these urgent ones.

You may already have urgent tasks on your honey-do list (a list of tasks your partner asks you to do). Before you make your own task list, make sure you take care of everything on your honey-do list .

After handling the most pressing matters on either list, you’ll want to work on the toughest room to clean in the home — i.e., the bathroom. Although it’s not an enormous room (in relation to the other rooms), it has so many nooks and crannies. And because germs in bathrooms get sprayed everywhere, cleaning every one of those crevices is important.

Clean bathroom fixtures and surfaces with a distilled white vinegar solution. Heat the solution for a minute in the microwave, and let it sit on the shower/tub walls for three minutes before you wipe it off.

Pick Up What Is Put Down

Don’t try to relax with your sweetie in an area that’s filled with clutter. The clutter won’t allow either of you to do so.

Carry a trash receptacle around the home. If you see stuff lying around (that shouldn’t be), pick it up and put it into the receptacle. You may take this opportunity to do a small purge, but exercise extreme caution if you do. If you’re doing this as a surprise outside of your home, you may not know everything that should be donated/thrown out. Ask before you decide something’s fate, and your Valentine will appreciate your gesture.

Boost Comfort Levels

You don’t want to send your sweetie pie into a sneezing fit once they get home. You’ll need to dust throughout the home — especially the blinds, ceiling fans, shelves, and furniture.

Part of keeping your beloved comfortable is making sure everything smells okay. You don’t want the sofa and mattress to smell nasty, so clean them. I don’t clean mattresses or sofas with water, because water can make them moldy and ruin them. You can deodorize them by letting baking soda sit on them for a while, and then vacuuming it off with the smallest attachment nozzle of your vacuum cleaner.

When you dust and refresh the furniture, many of the particles will just move onto a lower surface. Namely, the floor. To get rid of those particulates, sweep, mop, and vacuum the floors. This should be the last task on your list, because anything else will cause more dust to fall.
