Dust Regularly, It’s Good For You

Dust Regularly, It’s Good For You

Dust gets everywhere. It’s an inevitability. What’s worse, when you finally get around to dusting, there’s already more dust willing to take the place of the dust you removed. It’s enough to drive you bonkers. You may say to yourself, “What’s the harm in leaving the dust there for an extra few days or weeks?”. Unfortunately, it can be more harmful than you think. Dusting your space regularly can do wonders for it, and even for your personal health!

Did you know dust could damage your furniture? Dust leaves scratches on the surface of furniture, which can dull the finish on wood furniture. It seeps into the fabric on your furniture. An accumulation of dust will make your furniture look dull.

Most people have reactions to dust. Not full-blown allergies, but irritations that can feel like allergies — still certainly irritations you don’t want. However, insects called ‘dust mites’ develop in humid areas that aren’t dusted well (and they aren’t visible to the naked eye). In 2020, 20 million Americans had allergic reactions to dust mites.

About 25 million Americans, or 1 in 13, have asthma. Up to 90 percent of asthmatic people, depending on where they live, are sensitive to dust mites. This means dust mites can trigger severe reactions for millions of people.

Dust is detrimental to your health outside of asthma and allergies. A build-up of dust can occur in the lungs. Just like it is abrasive to the surface of furniture, dust can leave abrasions in your lungs. That leads to degenerative diseases like silicosis, which can lead to less manageable diagnoses.

Dust seems so innocent (and frustrating), but it’s much more than an unimportant nuisance. Good news: dusting is simple. It takes some elbow grease, though. Most cleaning experts say to dust with a damp cloth to avoid making more abrasions on your furniture.

It’s important to not only dust the areas you see attract a lot of dust, like electronics and bookshelves, but every nook and cranny in your space. That also means washing your linens and vacuuming your curtains. All the tools may not be at your disposal, but I’ll tell you who you can call: Andy’s Quality Cleaning!
